| Introduction of Forensic Medicine
The aim of the course is to introduce the nature, task£¬ range and subjects of forensic medicine, to introduce the branches of forensic medicine and the relationship to the law. The history and development of forensic medicine in China are introduced as well as in the world. It affords the medical evidence for the justice, such as brain death, euthanasia and organ transplantation according to the civil and criminal law of the countries. To introduce the basic principle and method of forensic medicine, such as determination of the cause of death, the time of death, manner of death are concerned. The course involved in the edition principles of the protocols based on the scientific and the facts. The teaching includes lecture and some visual video materials. |
| Criminal Science and Technology
This course introduces the outline of criminal science and technology, including the principles of inspection for a criminal scene, the analysis of mark in a criminal scene, the photography for criminal scene and the examination of documents. This period will enable the students to understand the principles and methods of inspection for a criminal scene and how to examine and record all kinds of mark and how to find the physical evidences. The teaching includes lectures, discussion of the cases and visual video materials. |
| Special English of forensic
medicine
The aim of teaching this course is training the students to obtain the ability of reading the special English text and the articles of forensic medicine from the literatures. This School of Forensic Medicine in WCUMS is the only one school which opens this course in our country. So far, no other School of Forensic Medicine opens this course. According to the lecture hours given by our university, some major chapters were selected from the book of ¡¶Introduction of Forensic Science¡·and ¡¶Practical Forensic Pathology¡·. They are: the history and development of legal medicine, introduction to forensic sciences, serology and immunology, forensic psychiatry, forensic pathology, the medicolegal autopsy and blood group immunogenetics. Teaching includes lectures supplemented with introducing with some interest cases of forensic pathology and forensic serology and immunology. |
| Forensic Toxicological Analysis
This course introduces basic principle and methods of toxicological analysis. It is designed to provide the characteristics of toxicological analysis, the procedure, a survey of analytical method. It also includes volatile poison, nonvolatile poison, pesticide, rodenticide and mental poison and so on. especially their kinds, sources, physical and chemical property, absorption, distribution, metabolism, the principle and method of their isolation and purification apart from various matrices. It also deals with their detection and determination by chemical reaction, spectrophotometry and chromatography. especially their principle, method, condition and effects. It also includes how to precede poisoning case, collect samples and scientifically assay the results. Teaching includes lectures, laboratory sessions, and experimental analysis demonstration. Apart from the core curriculum, there are selective courses in pharmaceutical analysis, equipment analysis and forensic toxicology. |
| Forensic Pathology
This course is based on Pathology and designed specially for the students who major in the Forensic Medicine. It includes the examination of cadaver at the scene of death, the investigation of death and post-mortem changes, the determination of the time since death,the mechanical injury and its identification, the differentiation of trauma and disease, asphyxia, burns and scalds, electrical fatalities, and sudden death. The teachings include lectures, laboratory demonstrations and the performs of autopsy with video materials. |
| Forensic Toxicology
This course is designed with principles and method of toxicology to study and dissolve the problem of poisons concerned with legal events. The course includes evaluating poisons as a cause or a contribution to death. The way, the clinical symptoms, the toxic and fatal levels of the poisoning are concerned as well as the nature, the mechanism and the pathologic changes of the poisoning death. The main task of the course is to teach the students to exclude or confirm the toxic factors in the death, to collect suitable samples for analysis, when the laboratory results are available, to interpret them in the light of his knowledge of the history, clinical features and autopsy appearances. The teaching includes lectures, laboratory demonstration, animal experiments and autopsy. |
| Clinical Forensic Medicine
This curriculum is based on clinical Medicine and designed specially for the students to study the forensic medicine. The aim of this course will enable the students to grasp the principles of clinical forensic medicine and to acquire methods, techniques of the evaluation of non-fatal injuries. It includes assessment of injuries severity, disability evaluation of work-related injuries, road traffic trauma. Medical malpractice, child and elder abuse as well as rape and sexual assault are concerned. Factitious and simulation disease, post-traumatic neurosis and general health assessment are involved. The teaching includes lectures, discussion of the cases, laboratory demonstration and visual video materials. |
| Forensic Biology
This course is designed to understand the principles and methods of the individual identification and the paternity study with human genetic markers. The course introduces the conception of genetic analysis for forensic medicine, the human genetic markers and the approach to typing, including blood group, HLA, isoenzymes in red blood cells, serum protein polymorphism, DNA fingerprinting, DNA profiling and Amp-FLP. This period will enable the students to develop their abilities to interpret laboratory results for the individual identification and the paternity study using the principle of forensic biology. The teaching includes lectures, discussion of the cases, laboratory demonstration and visual video materials. |

This course is designed to understand the principles and methods of identification of human skeleton and tooth. This period will enable the students to develop their abilities to interpret the results for the individual identification with anthropological methods, including identification of skeleton, species identification of the skeleton, sex determination of the skeleton, estimation of age of the skeleton and estimation of the high of the body. The teaching includes lectures, discussion of the cases, laboratory demonstration and visual video materials. |
